Abstract

The article analyzes Augusto dos Anjos’ poetry under the rubric “grotesque”. Going against the biographical tendencies seen in most approaches to this author, it concentrates on the humorous aspects of his poetry. It also compares it to German Expressionist poetry, specifically Gottfried Benn’s Morgue, published in the same year as Augusto dos Anjos’ Eu (1912).
