Abstract

This essay brings together American poet William Carlos Williams and Brazilian poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade as practitioners of a “poetics of generosity,” defined as a combination of the authors' humanistic engagement with certain key themes inherent in the Judeo-Christian tradition and preference for a simple, unrhetorical poetic diction.
